Stuart joined the firm of Sewells in 1977 where he completed his Articles. He continued with the firm and became a partner in 1983.

Stuart attended Monash University where he attained a Bachelor of Arts in 1974 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1977. He was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1978.

Stuart is managing director of the firm and practices in land transactions and administration of estates including the preparation of wills and powers of attorney. He has been involved in the operation of the Apollo Bay office since joining the firm and is in attendance there one day of the week.

Stuart decided to become a lawyer as he likes to help people and see the community function efficiently. He likes to assist families meeting their obligations in their daily transactions.

Stuart is married to Julie and they have three adult daughters.

Outside of work Stuart's interests include motor vehicles and water sports. He is a founding trustee of the Apollo Bay and District Health Foundation and former board member of the Colac and Birregurra Hospitals.
